Who we are

mm-hm (Muslims in Health and Medtech) is a curated peer community based in the United Kingdom. We operate as a private community and do not currently trade as a registered company. References to "mm-hm", "we", "us" and "our" in this policy refer to the community and its administrators.

Information we collect

We collect information you provide directly when you request to join the community. This includes:

• Full name — to identify you within the community
• Email address — to communicate with you about your membership
• Role and organisation — to understand your professional context
• Phone number — where provided, used only for WhatsApp group membership
• Professional category — the field you work in, selected from options on the join form

We do not collect payment information, automatically track your browsing behaviour, or use advertising cookies on this website.

How we use your information

• To review and process your request to join the community
• To add approved members to the relevant community channels (currently WhatsApp)
• To send community updates, event invitations and relevant announcements by email
• To understand the professional makeup of the community and improve how we serve members
• To contact you about your membership or any concerns raised by other members

We will not use your information for purposes incompatible with those listed above without obtaining your consent first.

Legal basis for processing

Where the UK GDPR applies, we rely on the following legal bases:

• Legitimate interests — managing and operating a professional peer community
• Consent — where you have actively submitted a request to join
• Contract — where processing is necessary to fulfil your membership

How we store your information

Join requests are stored in Google Forms and Google Sheets, hosted by Google LLC. Google's infrastructure is subject to their own privacy and security policies. Your information is accessible only to mm-hm administrators.

Community communications currently take place via WhatsApp. WhatsApp is operated by Meta Platforms and is subject to their own terms and privacy policy. When you join a WhatsApp group, other group members will be able to see your display name and phone number.

We do not operate our own servers and do not store your data beyond the platforms listed above.

Data sharing and disclosure

We do not sell, rent or trade your personal information. We will not share your data with third parties except in the following limited circumstances:

• With other community members, to the extent inherent in participation (e.g. your name in a WhatsApp group)
• With platform providers necessary to operate the community (Google, Meta/WhatsApp)
• Where required by law or to protect the safety of members or others

Your rights

Under UK data protection law, you have the right to:

• Access the personal information we hold about you
• Correct inaccurate or incomplete information
• Request deletion of your data, subject to any legal obligations
• Object to or restrict how we process your information
• Withdraw consent at any time, including by leaving the community
• Complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk if you believe your rights have been infringed

Cookies and tracking

This website does not use analytics, advertising or tracking cookies. No third-party tracking scripts are loaded. The only external requests made by this page are to Google Forms when you submit the join form, and to load fonts stored locally.

Children's privacy

mm-hm is a professional community intended for adults working in health and medtech. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under the age of 18. If you believe a minor has submitted information to us, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the date at the top of the page. We encourage you to review it periodically. Continued participation in the community after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
